Final Stats

Richmond, Va. - Richmond tallied three first-half goals and kept Saint Louis off the scoreboard to post a 3-0 field hockey win in the Atlantic 10 Conference finale on Sunday at Crenshaw Field in Richmond, Va. Billiken goalkeeper Amy Wasserman made 10 saves in the game to break the single-season record for saves. She finished the year with 192 to snap the previous record of 189 saves by Julie Smith in 1993.

The Spiders opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute of play. Adrian Pickar scored to put Richmond on top 1-0 when she deflected a shot into the Billiken goal. The Billikens put pressure on the UR net and rang up three straight shots but were denied each time. At the 19:56 mark, Megan Thompson received a centering pass and scored to boost the Spiders up 2-0. A little under four minutes later, Richmond scored off a penalty corner when Sarah Blythe-Wood tallied to make it 3-0. The Billikens earned a late penalty corner but could not convert.

SLU started the second half with a rush and earned two straight penalty corners. Catherine Donovan launched two straight shots at the Richmond goal, but Becca Weaver came up with two saves to keep the Billikens off the scoreboard. The Billikens had one more strong scoring opportunity when they again had two straight corners, but the Richmond defense held. The Billikens put 13 shots on the Spiders cage and held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.

The Billikens close out the season with a 4-15 record overall, 2-5 in the A-10. The Spiders, the defending conference champions, are now 6-12 overall, 5-2 in the league.
