Billikens Fall to Richmond in Season Finale

Fenton, Mo. - The Richmond Spiders struck for two goals in the first 10 minutes to ruin Senior Day for Saint Louis 9-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey on Saturday. The game was the season finale for the Billikens. Sarah Schrott scored at the 3:04 mark of the first half to give the Spiders the early lead. Almost five minutes later, the Billikens were called for a penalty stroke. Alex Malatesta tallied to push the Spiders to a two-goal margin. The Billikens pressured the Richmond goal and peppered seven shots at the UR cage in the first half. However, UR goalie Jacki Raithel made four saves in the first half to keep the Billikens off the scoreboard. Richmond's Michelle Weaver also recorded a defensive save to deny SLU a score. In the second half, the Spiders slowly pulled away to secure the victory. Before the game, seniors Cathi Brownell, Christine Frampus, Emily Kassab and Jacklyn McGranahan were honored in their final appearance for the Billikens. The Billikens end the season with a 4-13 overall record, 0-6 in the A-10. The Spiders improve to 9-9 overall, 5-1 in the league.
