Lindblad and Smith Sign to Play Field Hockey at SLU

St. Louis - Saint Louis University interim field hockey coach Lauren Bruce announced that Lexie Lindblad (St. Louis, Mo. / Ursuline) and Lauryn Smith (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's) have both signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Billikens. Both student-athletes will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2009-10 academic year "We are happy to welcome Lexie and Lauryn as Billikens," Bruce said. "Both have the talent as freshmen to make an immediate impact on the team. Lexi will be a solid asset to our team in the midfield. She has good vision, passes well and has the ability to make plays. Lauryn will be a welcome addition to the defensive backfield as we graduated two seniors. She has the skill and patience to make the right play on defense. " As a midfielder, Lindblad was a first-team All-Metro selection by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She scored seven goals, including three game winners, and added 10 assists for 24 points. Lindblad was a senior captain for an Ursuline squad, which posted a 23-2-1 record, and helped pace the Bears to the 2008 Missouri state championship game. She was a second-team All-American as Ursuline went undefeated in conference play. As a junior, Lindblad was an honorable mention All-Metro choice. Smith was a defensive standout for St. Joseph's Academy and helped the Angels win the 2008 Missouri state championship. She was an honorable mention All-Metro choice by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and helped St. Joseph's to a 20-4 record. Smith scored one goal and had two assists and was a key piece of the Angels' defense, which allowed only 17 goals all season. At the club level, she was named first-team Gateway St. Louis.
