Field Hockey Announces Three Signees

March 4, 2008

Saint Louis University head field hockey coach Marcie Boyer today announced that Nicole Kent (Peawaukee, Wis. / Arrowhead), Alex LaBarge (St. Louis, Mo. / Villa Duchesne) and Lauren Noe (Prospect, Ky. / Assumption) have all signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Billikens. All three will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.

Kent, a forward, was selected first-team All-State in 2007. She scored twice in the Wisconsin field hockey state championship game, including the game-winning goal. Kent was voted team captain as a junior and a senior and helped Arrowhead to a 12-2 record. She led the team in goals and assists, was selected as the team's Best Offensive Player and earned the Team Player Award. Kent was honored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Waukesha Freeman as Player of the Week in October 2007. She was second-team All-State as a sophomore and a junior and won three state championships during her prep career. Kent was a Festival and FUTURES participant.

"Nicole is one of the top recruits coming out of Wisconsin," Boyer said. "She is anxious to help us get to the Atlantic 10 tournament and has the skills to help us achieve that goal. Nicole adds a definite scoring threat to our forward line with her tenacity in the circle and her ability to find the cage."

LaBarge, a goalie, was chosen the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Year. As a senior, she helped Villa Duchesne win the 2007 Missouri State championship. During the run to the title, LaBarge surrendered just one goal in five games. She posted a 12-4-2 record and ranked third in the metro St. Louis area with a 0.69 goals against average. LaBarge posted six shutouts and shared in three others. As a junior, she was a second-team All-Metro selection by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch when she posted eight shutouts to go along with 12 wins and a 1.20 GAA. LaBarge also is a starter on the Villa Duchesne basketball team.

"Alex is going to be a great replacement for our graduating senior Amy Wasserman, and we have a St. Louis goalie replacing a St. Louis goalie," Boyer said. "Alex will come in with the experience and ability to be a contender for the starting position. It will be a daily battle in the cage between her and Katherine Deem, and I am anxious to see how the two handle it. We are lucky and honored to have Alex as part of our program for the next four years. She is a great all-around athlete, strong academically and will be a great fit here with us at SLU. It is a positive sign for the program that we were able to get the top recruit out of St. Louis."

Noe was a first-team All-State selection and an academic All-American. She was a three-year starter for Assumption and helped the Rockets win the 2005 Kentucky State championship. Assumption finished the season ranked No. 6 nationally, and Noe was selected as a Kentucky All-Star. She was a FUTURES participant, played for the IFHCK Club team and was a member of the Beta Club at Assumption. Noe was chosen to play in the 2007 Kentucky Senior All-Star game. She also was a member of Assumption's track and field team and ran on the 4X400 relay team which placed second at the state meet. Noe also played on the lacrosse squad.

"Lauren is a hard-working, talented athlete who brings a lot of experience to SLU," Boyer said. "She comes from a high school that fights for the Kentucky State title every year, and she has also been a five-year member of one of the most notable clubs in the nation. Lauren has exceptional speed and stick skills and could make an immediate impact on our program."
