Field Hockey Welcomes Four Newcomers
May 12, 2006 St. Louis - Saint Louis field hockey head coach Marcie Boyer will welcome four new players to the roster when her first season as head coach begins in the fall. Molly Boyne (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual), Maura Breen (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Eva Luck (Fenton, Mo./Cor Jesu) have all signed national letters of intent to attend the university and play field hockey for the Billikens. Sarah Lohmann (Houston, Texas/Duchesne) has accepted the University's written offer of admission and will join the Billikens' program. All four will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2006-07 academic year. Boyne, a forward, helped San Pasqual to a 21-3-1 record and a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division II championship during her senior year. A first-team All-CIF selection, Boyne totaled 32 points (11G, 21A) during her senior season and was selected to participate in the CIF All-Star game. She also gained experience through The Futures Program, USA Field Hockey's Olympic development initiative. Breen, a goalkeeper, played every minute in the cage for the Eagles her senior year. She posted a .827 save percentage and set national high school records with 15.44 saves per game, 30 saves in a game and 26 saves in a shutout. Breen was selected to the All-Area team her junior and senior years and was dubbed a Chestmont All-Star her senior season. She also played every minute in goal for the Delaware Sharks, one the the premier indoor club teams in the state of Delaware. Luck, a forward, was a four-year starter at Cor Jesu and a member of three state championship teams. During her senior year, she led the Chargers to a 19-1 record and scored a goal and added an assist in Cor Jesu's 3-1 win in the Midwest Tournament championship. She was named to the 2005 St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro team after leading the Chargers with 35 points (14G, 7A).
Lohmann, a forward/midfielder, was a four-year player and team captain her senior season at Duchesne Academy. Although the Chargers are not recognized by a conference, Lohmann helped the team to several significant wins against established prep and club teams in the Houston area. A three-sport athlete, Lohmann also gained valuable field hockey experience in The Futures Program. The quartet joins a squad that returns 15 players from last year's 7-11 team. In their first season in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Billikens finished tied for fourth after posting a 3-4 conference mark. |
