Women's Golf Holds Steady in 14th at Birmingham Southern

BESSEMER, Ala. - Saint Louis freshman Christa Cloutier shot a second-round 76 to help the women's golf team hold onto 14th place among the 15 teams at the Ann Rhoads Birmingham Southern Shootout at Bent Brook Golf Course. After struggling with weather conditions on Monday, the Billikens shot 335 on Tuesday to finish at 692, just six strokes behind 13th-place Lipscomb. Cloutier, who shot 81 on Monday, led the team with a school-record two-round total of 157 and a share of 15th place. Sophomore Jenny Madras battled back from Monday's 89 to shoot 81 and finish tied for 62nd place among the 92 golfers in the field. Sophomore Keely Fitzgerald made the largest improvement from round one to round two, shooting 86 on Tuesday after an uncharacteristic 95 to open play on Monday. She ended up in a tie for 79th place. Freshman Caitlin Cummings matched her first-round 92 on Tuesday for 83rd place, and sophomore Kaela Burke completed the team with a second-round 94 to go with Monday's 98 for 86th place. Overall, Jacksonville State edged host Birmingham Southern by one stroke for the team title. JSU's Louise Fleming was the individual medallist, shooting par 72 both days for a total of 144. The Billikens take a week off before returning to competition on Mon., Mar. 6, at Murray State's Big River Lady Racer Classic.
