Top-Seeded Dayton Eliminates Billikens From A-10 Championship
Nov. 6, 2009 CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Top-seeded Dayton scored three goals in the first 31 minutes and went on to defeat No. 5 seed Saint Louis 5-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinals Friday night at Transamerica Field. The Billikens concluded their season with an 8-9-4 record. Dayton, which will face No. 2 seed and host Charlotte in Sunday's title game that will determine the A-10's automatic NCAA Tournament representative, improved to 15-0-5. Charlotte scored with just 1:14 remaining to squeak by No. 3 Fordham 2-1 in the other semifinal. Junior Emily Kryzer (Wichita, Kan./Kapaun Mount Carmel) scored her first career goal at the 32:15 mark to cut the Dayton lead to 3-1. Senior Susan Frederickson (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's), who picked up her fifth assist, served a free kick to Kryzer, who found the right corner of the net. Colleen Williams, assisted by Cara Cornacchia, gave Dayton the lead just 2:34 into the match. Tori Oelschlager (Mandi Back) made it 2-0 at 20:10, and Williams (Kelly Blumenschein) struck again at 30:23 for a 3-0 Flyer advantage. Lauren MacCormick restored Dayton's three-goal lead with an unassisted marker at 46:23, and Blumenschein completed the scoring with an unassisted tally at 60:15.
