ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis head women's soccer coach Tim Champion announced today that forwards Kaitlyn Doescher (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) and Alyssa Gutierrez (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert) have committed to attend the University and play for the Billikens next fall. Doescher and Gutierrez each will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2009 season.

Doescher was a four-time All-Region selection who helped lead Millennium to four consecutive region crowns and an appearance in the state quarterfinals the past three seasons. She played club soccer for the Sol del Sol 91 Golden Eagles, who last fall finished second in the Sereno Pro Classic.

Also a standout in cross country and track and field, Doescher earned All-Region cross country honors, medaled in state track competition in the 800 meters and 3,200-meter relay and established school records in the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200-meter relay. She excelled in the classroom as well, garnering Arizona Interscholastic Association Scholar-Athlete laurels eight times and collecting the All-Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.

"Kaitlyn will supply speed, hard play and a physical presence up top," Champion said. "She has good size and strength and will help us on the left side of the field."

Gutierrez was a prolific offensive performer during her senior season, producing team highs of 22 goals and 11 assists as Gilbert captured a fourth consecutive conference title. She was named to the All-State and All-Conference first teams and was tabbed conference Offensive Player of the Year. Gutierrez earned a second-team All-State nod as a junior and helped lead Gilbert to second place in the state that year following a state quarterfinals appearance in her freshman campaign.

Gutierrez has enjoyed considerable success as a longtime member of Gilbert Arsenal, helping the club win numerous championships. She is a four-year Academic Golden Scholar, a National Honor Society member and a 2008 Honeywell International Presidential Classroom Scholarship recipient.

"Alyssa attacks well out of the midfield or up top and has great touch on the ball," Champion said. "She will add to our attacking game with her ability to beat defenders and move into a good scoring area."

The Billikens' roster will feature seven newcomers next season. Doescher and Gutierrez join back/midfielder Maggie Baumann (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's), back Allison Hu (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne), midfielder Alli Reimer (St. Charles, Mo./Duchesne), back Emily Viviano (Orange, Calif./Orange Lutheran) and goalkeeper Parris Wells (Coto de Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita) in the Billikens' 2009 class.

Saint Louis posted an 11-6-4 record in 2008, giving the Billiken program at least 10 victories for a seventh consecutive season and 11th time in its 13-year history. The Billikens have made two NCAA Tournament appearances, won three regular-season conference championships and captured two conference tournament crowns.
