Billiken Recruit Barklage Named Player of the Year

June 26, 2008

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis recruit Andrea Barklage (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) has added to her already impressive list of honors by being named Class 2 Player of the Year by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association. Barklage earlier garnered the same distinction from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A 5-foot-3 center back, Barklage tallied five goals and five assists this season and helped lead Incarnate Word to the state title and a 20-1 record. She played a key role on the Red Knights' defense that produced 16 shutouts while yielding only five goals. Barklage, who played on Incarnate Word's 2005 and 2007 state runner-up squads, was a four-time first-team All-State selection and the 2007 Missouri Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year.

Saint Louis, which was 10-6-2 overall and 7-2-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference last season, opens the 2008 campaign Aug. 22 at Southeast Missouri State. The Billikens face Nebraska Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the home opener at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
