Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Louis softball team has proved time and again that it has the ability to rally for wins, and the Billikens' Atlantic 10 game against La Salle on Friday afternoon was no different as SLU came from behind for a 5-4 victory. With the win, the Bills improved to 12-15-1 overall and 3-0 in the A-10.

La Salle (8-15, 2-5 A-10) plated a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the initial lead. A leadoff walk came back to hurt the Bills when the runner moved around to third on a wild pitch and a passed ball before scoring on a two-out single.

Kristin Nicoletti hit a one-out triple to right center to start the SLU rally in the third, and Rachel Heet's sacrifice fly knotted the score at 1-1. Then Nicki Jost and Katie Johns followed with back-to-back singles. The duo was successful at the double steal when the Explorers' catcher threw down to third to get Jost but no one was covering the base. Jost scored when the ball sailed into left field and Johns safely moved to third before a strikeout from Gina Massaro ended the threat.

The Explorers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the third. With one out, La Salle collected back-to-back singles and both runners moved into scoring position on a Billiken error. Following a strikeout, Michelle Sullivan singled to center field to drive in a pair of runs to put La Salle up 3-2.

SLU made its move in the fifth following back-to-back singles from Caitlin Trevillyan and Nicoletti. Heet reached on an error to load the bases for Jost, who singled up the middle to drive in two runs for the 4-3 advantage. Jost eventually came around to score on a La Salle error for the Bills' fifth run of the game.

La Salle put runners on base in their final three innings but were only able to push one run across in the sixth as the Billikens claimed the one-run victory.

Stacy Gillette (2-6) picked up the win after allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out two in the first four innings. Erin Kelly picked up the first save of her career after giving up three hits, a run and a walk while fanning one in the final three frames.

Nicoletti and Jost led Saint Louis with two hits and two runs apiece while Jost had a team-high two RBIs. Heet and Johns each drove in one run for the Bills.
