Game One

Game Two

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Pitcher Stacy Gillette's dominating performance in game two helped the Saint Louis softball team salvage a split with Atlantic 10 Conference foe St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon in New York. The Billikens (17-29-1, 7-7 A-10) dropped the first game 3-1 before picking up a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.

Neither team was able to put a consistent offensive threat together in the opener until the Bills took the lead in the top of the third. Allison Hopke drew a leadoff walk, and then stole second base with one out. Hopke advanced to third on a groundout and eventually scored on a wild pitch for the one-run edge.

St. Bonaventure (16-18, 8-4 A-10) found its offense in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases on three straight singles to start the inning. SLU prevented the Bonnies from scoring by recording a pop out and forcing a runner out at home on a fielder's choice. But Kara Morenus broke the game open with a two-run single off Billiken starter Lorena Floccari to put St. Bonaventure up 2-1. The Bonnies added their third run on a Saint Louis error with two outs in the sixth inning.

Sherri Thompson (13-7) picked up the win, scattering four hits, five walks and four strikeouts for one run. Floccari (4-12) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits and a strikeout in the first five innings.

In the nightcap, Saint Louis scored the only run it would need to put away the Bonnies in the third inning. Keri O'Keefe singled to left center to start the Billiken rally. Then Caitlin Trevillyan reached on a fielder's choice. After stealing second base, Trevillyan scored on Rachel O'Connell's double to give SLU the 1-0 lead.

Gillette (4-13) faced just four more batters than the minimum, and only two Bonnies made it as far as second base in the nightcap. She earned the victory after giving up just four hits and striking out four in the complete game.

O'Connell, Rachel Heet and Kristain Burger each had two hits in the twinbill, while O'Connell tallied the Billikens' only RBI of the day.
