ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis softball team completed its fall 2009 slate of exhibition games with an 8-0 record after picking up consecutive wins Oct. 10 at The Billiken Sports Center. This fall, the Bills outscored their opponents by a combined score of 79-5.

SLU's toughest test of the fall campaign came against Missouri-St. Louis Oct. 10. The game was a scoreless tie and each team had just two hits when the Billiken bats came alive in the fifth inning. Sophomore Rachel Faletto kicked off the scoring with an RBI single. The Bills scored again on an RBI single from freshman Jessica Buschjost, and junior Caitlin Trevillyan drove in three runs to give Saint Louis a 5-0 cushion. SLU scored another insurance run in the sixth on Faletto's RBI double. The Tritons rallied for four seventh-inning runs on five hits to cut the margin to two, but that was as close as they would get as the Bills claimed a 6-4 victory.

Sophomore Kelcie Matesa earned the win in the circle after scattering three hits and striking out nine in 5-2/3 innings of work. Senior Emma DeKalb picked up the save despite allowing four runs on five hits in the final frame. Trevillyan powered the offense with three RBIs and a pair of doubles, while Faletto had two hits and two RBIs and sophomore Kerri Dockins added two hits.

Following the UMSL victory, the Billikens defeated Mineral Area College 9-0 for their sixth shutout of the fall. In the circle, sophomore transfer Hannah Huebbe fanned nine batters and surrendered just two hits in six innings. Sophomore Liz Jones led SLU with two hits and two RBIs, while junior Kristin Nicoletti added a pair of hits and Faletto plated two runs.

Huebbe and Matesa each compiled a 4-0 mark and a 0.00 ERA in the circle this fall. Huebbe led the squad with four starts, three complete games, three shutouts and 22 innings pitched. Matesa posted team highs of five appearances and 37 strikeouts. Offensively, Jones led the way with a .545 average, 12 hits, three home runs and 15 RBIs. Faletto ranked second on the club with a .474 average and 12 RBIs, while Nicoletti hit .458 with 12 hits and a team-high 12 runs scored. Senior Rachel O'Connell (.444), Buschjost (.417) and Trevillyan (.412) rounded out the players hitting better than .400 this fall.

The Billikens open the 2010 campaign Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta.
