Three Billikens to Compete Against USA Softball National Team

June 10, 2008

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis junior shortstop Rachel Heet (St. Louis, Mo. / Mehlville), sophomore catcher Nicki Jost (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville) and freshman outfielder Kristin Nicoletti (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville) will have an opportunity to play against some of the top softball players in the world when the 2008 USA Softball National Team makes a stop at ABC Park in St. Ann, Mo., on Thursday, June 12, on its Bound 4 Beijing Tour. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our players with it now being the final Olympics for softball," Billiken head coach John Conway said. "They are going to have the chance to get on the field with the best players in the world. I hope they enjoy the experience and have a great time."

The trio will be competing on the St. Louis All-Star Team, which is comprised of St. Louis-area natives who have competed in softball at the Division I level. Players from regional schools such as the University of Missouri, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Missouri State are also on the roster. The squad will be coached by some of the top club coaches in the area.

Heet was the Billikens' top offensive threat in 2008. The first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection led Saint Louis in nearly every offensive category and became just the 16th player in school history to compile more than 100 hits in her career. Jost posted a .986 fielding percentage behind the plate last season and recorded at least 40 hits and 20 RBIs for the second straight season. All Nicoletti did in her first collegiate campaign was shatter the program's stolen bases standards for a game (four) and a season (34). The two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week pick ranked second on the team with 44 hits and a .272 average while completing the season ranked 18th in the nation in stolen bases per game (0.60).
